MP Kgathi briefs Bobirwa councillors

Botswana Police Service has lined up some projects for delivery in the Bobirwa Sub-district for the Bobonong and Mmadinare constituencies during National Development Plan 11.

Addressing Bobirwa Sub-district councillors recently, Member of Parliament for Bobonong, who is also Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi said the major project to be undertaken was the Semolale police station with 36 housing units.

The project would also include the refurbishment of existing police structures which include a small office block and nine residential houses.

Mr Kgathi told councillors that the site was handed over on July 26, and that construction was expected to start this month and take 24 months.

In addition to the police station, Mr Kgathi said police posts would be constructed in NDP 11, and that they were Tsetsebye which was almost complete, Motlhabaneng which was at tender stage, Molalatau slated for 2018/19, Mathathane earmarked for 2019/2020 and Moletemane planned for the 2020/2021 fiscal year.

In Mmadinare constituency, Mr Kgathi informed councillors that the construction of a police station with 55 housing units was planned for the 2018/19 financial year and added that seven houses were already under construction.

The constituency also has a police post in the pipeline  with Damuchojenaa and Robelela police posts planned for 2016/19, Maokatumo planned for 2020/21, Tshokwe and Tobane  would be constructed in 2021/22 and Mogapi in 2022/23.

The MP also briefed councillors about the bills discussed during the just ended winter Parliament.

He said one of the bills discussed was the inter-state transfer of prisoners between Botswana and countries with which Botswana has entered into agreements.

He said the bill would allow prisoners to serve their sentences in their countries.

Mr Kgathi also briefed councillors about the ease of doing business, saying in many instances in a bid to do business or seek services from government, people were asked to bring all sorts of certified documents.

He said cabinet has reviewed most of the calls for certified copies, and said for programmes such as LIMID and ISPAAD customers would no longer require to produce certified copies of Omang, land board/lease certificate, marriage certificate, brand certificate, water right certificate, saying they stalled the delivery of projects.
