27 Aug 2017
Permanent Secretary to the President, Mr Carter Morupisi has encouraged Batswana to lend a helping hand to the needy.
Giving a keynote address at a community service day at Moroka Primary School on August 24, he stated that President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama emphasised the need and importance of being a compassionate nation.
Mr Morupisi, who is also the patron of Moroka Primary School, led a team from Office of the President, North East District and private sector to paint the newly built hostels for leaners with disabilities.
Many private companies came on board to give a helping hand with Dulux Botswana donating paint worth P40 000, while Reno investments provided labour equivalent to P96 000 by roofing the hostels.
Gena International donated 10 doors worth P5 000, Glazing Botswana contributed windows worth P6 000 with Adansonia pledging P20 000.
Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board, who have partnered with Mr Morupisi on this project in the past to donate P15 000 further pledged an additional P50 000.
The patron stated that the hostels would ensure learners with disabilities start lessons early, unlike currently where they travel long distances in the morning to school.
He expressed his joy with the people of Moroka for believing in this project, adding that they had succeeded because of team work.
Mr Morupisi further thanked all the companies who had made donations towards the project and also called on more stakeholders to come on board and assist however they could.
The project coordinator, Mr Thomas Motingwa said in 2016 when Mr Morupisi adopted the school as its patron, he promised the parents that their wish to see learners with disabilities housed in school hostels would come true.
He highlighted that ever since the ground breaking of the construction of hostels in July, many companies had shown commitment on this project.
Mr Motingwa said for the community service to be carried out at the hostel structure proved how committed everyone was to the project.
He reiterated that more assistance was needed on the project and thanked all villagers who volunteered their time to work on the project.
Kgosi George Moroka of Moroka thanked Mr Morupisi for spear herding the project, which he said would change the lives of children upon completion.
He further commended everyone who had made donations towards the project to ensure it was a success.
Kgosi Moroka said he wanted to see the learners with disabilities having comfortable accommodation.
He stated that the community service was a great day because the hostels were about to be completed.Ends
