Botswana Police Service recently donated a house to a needy person in Lesoma as part of the Presidential Housing Appeal.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Police Commissioner, Mr Keabetswe Makgophe praised members of the service for giving back to their community and helping those in need.
He explained that as the police service their job was not only to enforce the law, but to also assist government in improving the welfare of the less fortunate members of society.
“We also donate school shoes to students countrywide and we will still continue to help where possible,” he said.
Kazungula station commander, Superintendent Mack Sonny said after identifying Ms Basentseng Atlatseng as the beneficiary with the assistance of social workers, a committee was elected to raise funds.
Superintendent Sonny further stated that they chose the beneficiary because she had nowhere to stay although her late parents had left her and her siblings an undeveloped plot.
He noted that after raising funds a ground breaking ceremony was last year.
“This house was built by a police officer among us, Constable Marwagolwane from scratch and we assisted with labour,” he noted.
Ms Atlatseng thanked the police service for their efforts and for fulfilling her dream to own a house.
“I am very happy with my new home. As we are approaching the rainy season, I did not trust my mud house to keep me safe from the harsh weather, ” she said.
Kgosi Lesoma Lesoma thanked the police for their efforts and pleaded with the beneficiary to take good care of her new home as it was not everyone who was blessed to receive such.ENDS
