Boteti sees improvement on project implementation
27 Aug 2017
Close monitoring and supervision has resulted in a slight improvement in development implementation in Boteti Sub-district.
Giving an update on Sub-district development commitee during sub-council session recently, district officer-development, Ms Nobuble Mbusi said this was so, despite delays or slow progress by contractors, shortage of manpower such as bricklayers, sand and water.
Ms Mbusi stated that the sub-district would implement 230 projects for the year 2017/18 including spill overs from the previous financial year in the first quarter. She stated that 107 out of 230 started projects were 100 per cent complete, with 80 on schedule and on budget, 28 not yet awarded and 15 behind schedule.
Ms Mbusi stated that transport was a challenge for most departments and lack of commitment from some beneficiaries, especially Poverty Eradication Programme and Youth Development Fund.
She stated that the sub-district continued to urge the technical committee and district economic empowerment committee to intensify project management to improve timely project delivery.
The district leadership, she said would continue intensifying counselling of clients and family on the importance of projects through joint kgotla meetings and site visits.
The district leadership, she further said had urged all heads of department to desist from operating in silos and share resources.
She said contractors, who did not adhere to contractual agreement, were notified of slow progress and also cautioned of being blacklisted to avoid cost over-runs and delay in service.
Ms Mbusi stated that there were 424 teachers against 339 teachers’ quarters in the sub-district.
That, she said demonstrated a serious shortage of accommodation, resulting in teachers having to rent houses in the village, which cost more than what they would be paying if they were renting institutional houses.
Ms Mbusi said this could had an impact in quality staff perceiving the area as unfavourable to work in considering the accommodation status.
The sub-district, she said had 388 classrooms and there was still a concern of highly populated schools such as Seasole, Supang, Mokane, Baipidi and Retlhatloleng primary schools which were experiencing acute shortage of classrooms. Ends
