Diabo primary school beats odds tops region

The Southern District Counsil (SDC) deputy council chairperson Mr Thamiso Chabalala has applauded and praised Diabo primary school for obtaining 100 per cent pass rate in the standard 7 examination results in 2016.
Mr Chabalala was a guest speaker at the victory celebration and excellence awards held at Diabo primary school recently.
Mr Chabalala was pleased and commended all stakeholders for the performance of the school. He indicated that while celebrating best performance and performers, it was crucial to make it a collective responsibility to assist as many others as possible to attain better results in future.
He said teamwork prevailed in Diabo resulting in good results, hence it could be used as a benchmark by other schools to improve their performances.
He urged parents to take part in their children’s education in other schools to improve school results which were declining.
Mr Chabalala appealed to parents, teachers and children to work jointly for better results in academic performance.
He said parents should take keen interests in the performance of their children. He said education was ‘a three legged pot’ that needed all stakeholders to pull up their socks to assist learners.
He appealed to parents to let teachers know their children’s weakness, strength and diseases they were suffering from.
He called upon the government to maintain schools and avail all learning resources to make schools a conducive learning environment for students.
The council chief said besides some challenges they were facing, Diabo teachers and parents worked together to make sure students passed their examinations.
The school head Ms Irene Mokgatitswane encouraged teachers to keep the spirit of working together.
She said teachers produced best results because they worked tirelessly during the weekends and after hours.
She congratulated parents and teachers for working together as a team.
She said teachers and parents were volunteering themselves to assist children do their work with ease.
She said the school was facing challenges of water shortage and dilapidated teachers quarters.
She said some students travelled 5km to school which made them miss from school during bad weather.
She said teachers were not promoted which made them unenthusiastic to work and produce good results.
She said they should be acknowledged and rewarded. The school won many trophies for best performance.
Former Diabo primary school student, Kabo Garetshaba who schooled there in the 80s encouraged students to work hard and beat those in urban areas where resources were available.
He said parents’ contribution towards education was important.
He said to stay in settlements like Diabo was not making children thoughtless when it came to learning.
He said the school had produced well respected and responsible people who occupied high positions in various spheres of work. ENDS
