Education vital
21 Aug 2017
Education is the engine of the economy and all have the responsibility to educate the next generation of citizens, says Dr Antony Joseph of Gaborone University College of Law.
Speaking at the Kweneng Regional Excellence Awards, Dr Joseph said education would help the country to deliver on a fairer society in which opportunities were shared widely.
He informed the gathering that excellence was a trait that could be inherited, but that it took determination to achieve set targets. He urged learners to remain focused if they were to do well in life.
He also implored all stakeholders to empower learners with life skills that would help them to avoid unemployment and social ills such as alcohol and substance abuse.
“There is no way of achieving excellence academically, it is how you apply the principles as learners, I urge you to remain strong and focused and by doing this I can assure you that you will achieve excellence,” he said.
Dr Joseph paid homage to teachers and parents’ efforts in supporting and enhancing the development of young talent to become future leaders. He also acknowledged the hard work of professional academics that carried out their duties and contributed to the success of each student.
Schools, teachers and learners’ efforts were appreciated financially and through certificates. Mr Dikgopo from Dutlwe Primary School and Mr Semetse Mofenyi of Ikageng Secondary School were rewarded for overall best performance.
Dutlwe Primary School was also rewarded for best performing school after recording a 100 per cent pass rate. ENDS
