20 Aug 2017

Alpha Fire Ministries (AFM) from Jwaneng has adopted Good Hope Senior Secondary school.

Speaking during the handing over of toiletry to the school recently, the church overseer, Apostle Patrick Sejeso said they saw the need to partner with the school to assist with toiletries that included sanitary pads, washing powder and shoe polish among others.

He said his church would continue to make an impact at the school socially and academically, adding that they were simply led by love of wanting to see the school improving academically and socially.

“We have seen in many occasion on the media that some girls miss their school days during their menstrual period because they did not have sanitary pads. We were touched and saw the need to donate such toiletry to help the girl child,” said Apostle Sejeso.

He said they would continue to visit the school to see how they could assist.

The Member of Parliament for Good Hope/ Mabule Kgosi Letlaamoreng II  commended the church  for the spirit of philanthropy by  giving and displaying love and compassion to Good Hope Senior Secondary School.

He said the school needed more assistance and partnerships with organisations such as the church for divine intervention.

For her part, the senior guidance and counselling teacher Ms Wame Ramokone highlighted that the school operated with a population of more than 2 000 students which translated to 50 classes.

She noted that most of the students who were staying at school came from small villages and said it was not easy for their parents to travel to check on them.

Ms Ramokone further said the gesture would go a long way in assisting the orphans and needy students.

“We have been relying on our Development Studies students to donate through their school projects and your donation came at the right time.

Our needy students needs psycho-social support to uplift them and help them to regain their dignity and spirituality, “explained Ms Ramokone.

She said there was an issue of inter-generational relationship where older men take advantage of the young girls due to their poor economic status which led to teenage pregnancy.

She pleaded with the church to go beyond donations and help in other circles such as motivation and counselling.

Meanwhile the school's head girl Ms Larona Mosweu acknowledge the church for the gesture which she said was a demonstration of the love of God.

She said giving did not mean that one was rich and it came from the heart. ENDS
