20 Aug 2017

The nation expects a lot from sports personalities hence the need to take sports seriously,  says Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Slumber Tsogwane.

Donating a football kit which bears national colours to White Diamonds in Orapa recently, Tsogwane said sports taught discipline, teamwork, perseverance and to be competitive.

White Diamonds is in the second division league in Boteti.

“We must derive all the benefits we can from sports,” he said. He urged them to never give up in sports.

Tsogwane encouraged the players to pursue their dreams, saying they should never limit their dreams as that might lead to failure.

He said they should differentiate a dream from a plan, saying the latter must be realistic.

The minister acknowledged Debswana’s contribution in sports citing facilities such as stadia, adding that they had pushed Orapa United’s performance to greater levels and put the mining town in the map.

Team chairperson, Kabelo Tutwane appreciated the donation, saying it would make a huge difference in terms of performance and restoring their dignity.

The captain, Monkgogi Baolaoleng thanked the minister and government for supporting football teams, especially those in lower divisions.

Orapa councillor, Koketso Seloi said the donation should give the players courage to elevate their performance. ENDS
