Women give to Old Naledi children

01 Jul 2013

In an endeavour to restore dignity of orphans and underprivileged children in Old Naledi, a group of women in Gaborone decided to buy them winter clothes.

The coordinator of the group, Ms Candice Muir said they raised over P11 000 of funds solicited from different individuals and companies to buy tracksuits, scarves and binnies for 100 children.

Speaking at the donation in Gaborone on Saturday, Ms Muir said they came up with the idea after realising that there were a lot of underprivileged children whose parents were incapacitated to support and provide all the necessities for them during the harsh weather conditions.

She said they wanted to demonstrate to the public that an ordinary person could make a difference in the society by providing assistance to underprivileged children.

The principal social welfare officer, Ms Phinny Mpheke said the children who benefited from the group were those from the age range of 13-18 years.

Ms Mpheke appreciated the group’s assistance saying they joined hands in driving one of President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama's five D’s, which is dignity, saying they restored dignity of the poor people as well as driving vision 2016’s pillar of being a caring and compassionate nation. ENDS
