01 Jul 2013

Palapye Primary Hospital has received a total of 100 blankets from the Association of Jiangxi Chinese in Botswana.

Speaking at the donation in Palapye last week, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President, Mr Mogomotsi Kaboeamodimo said the Chinese people had Botho and that it was in their tradition to show compassion to the less privileged.

Mr Kaboeamodimo pointed out that the local media was always awash with negative reports of Chinese companies, which failed to deliver projects on time. However, he noted that it was not a true reflection of the culture of the Chinese as they were hard workers.

He also applauded Palapye MP, Mr Moiseraele Goya and the association for ensuring that the hospital received blankets. He said the blankets came at the right time when the winter season had set in.

The association’s chairperson, Mr Liu Yuan Shui said it was the Chinese tradition to donate to the needy. “Helping the needy is our obligation, our responsibility and our task.”

Mr Liu said the Chinese community believed that giving was better than taking hence donations made to different organisations in the country by the association. He said the association raised P800 000 for the renovation of Mogoditshane Clinic last December and P50 000 for the needy as well as P135 000 for Serowe SOS. In addition the association donated about 500 blankets to the needy.

Palapye MP, Mr Moiseraele Goya said the donation followed his request after receiving a phone call from a member of public who informed him of shortage of blankets at the hospital.

Mr Goya said as a responsible leader, he could not ignore the situation as such he consulted a Chinese friend who further informed the association about the situation at the hospital.

He said the hospital had 70 beds therefore in need of 70 blankets and the 30 remaining blankets would be donated to clinics in the periphery which were under the responsibility of Palapye District Health Management Team. ENDS
