Okavango hosts poverty Eradication expo Friday
15 Aug 2017
The inaugural Okavango Sub-district Poverty Eradication projects expo is slated for Friday.
This follows the realisation that marketing products by poverty eradication beneficiaries was a challenge hence the expo would be a platform for beneficiaries to showcase and sell their products.
The expo also aims to encourage the development of competitive and sustainable business as well as to bring together small scale entrepreneurs to share ideas and skills.
In an interview, Okavango Sub-district deputy district commissioner, Mr Thabang Waloka said there were 63 excelling poverty eradication projects in the district.
Mr Waloka added that they were the people who were expected to showcase at the expo.
He said the projects included basketry, small stock, fishery, bakery, sewing, carpentry and backyard garden among others.
Mr Waloka said they wanted to see beneficiaries of the Poverty Eradication Programme grow in terms of business hence the expo.
He said the expo would be competitive one, adding that those who would impress would proceed to compete at the national level.
Since the issue of a market was a major challenge among many businesses, the deputy district commissioner said they intended to host such events annually.
He, however, noted that in the past they had hosted market days or mini shows to enable beneficiaries to showcase their products.
The theme for the upcoming expo is: “Marketed products are sustainable, hence improved livelihoods.” BOPA
