FA Cup to launch
14 Aug 2017
Botswana Football Association president, MacLean Letshwiti says negotiations are at an advanced stage to launch the long awaited FA Cup.Briefing the media after the association’s annual general meeting (AGM) on Saturday, Letshwiti said the competition would take place during the 2017/2018 season.
He said the FA Cup was now at the contractual level, adding that the cup was an important competition because that was where everybody was involved and where talent was discovered.
Furthermore, he said he was confident that the FA Cup would do a lot to developmental as well as the elite league.
“It’s no longer a dream, like I said we are now at contractual level. As to how the game will be played, how many games will be played, you know the normal logistics,” he said.
Letshwiti said the FA Cup depended on how fast the association would move to conclude contractual obligations.
He said the vision of the association should be played by as many teams as possible, adding logistics would determine the timeframe and whether it would fit into the current season.
The FA Cup, he said, was almost like another league, adding that it would be suicidal to overload the current leagues.
On the national team sponsor, Letshwiti was quick to point out that the Zebras were a hard-sell because the team was not doing well.
“But we haven’t given up, we will continue trying. Sponsors need mileage, people keep saying Zebras is not doing well, of-course Zebras will not do well until we have robust development structure’s,” he said.On other issues, he said their meeting was conducted in a corporate manner, adding that the AGM was called for a report back in terms of their strategy.
Furthermore, he said they talked about the non-compliant financials, adding that the finance of his organisation were not compliant hence they were not presented.
“Honestly I don’t know since when, but they were never compliant, so I send the financial report back so that they comply with the constitution of the association and FIFA requirement,” he said.
Letshwiti further said compliance took time because it was something that he did not know where it started. Ends
