Think employment creation at early age
14 Aug 2017
Mannathoko Junior Secondary School (JSS) headteacher, Mr Ontireletse Lekoba has appealed to students to take heed of government’s call of a mindset change from job seeking to creating employment. Mr
Lekoba said this at the school’s career fair organised for Form Three students by the school’s guidance and counselling committee.
“Currently there is a serious crisis of unemployment. It is crucial that we shift our mindsets from seeking employment to looking for ways of creating employment at an early age,” he said.
He urged students to take advantage of the day and utilise it in selecting courses which could propel the county to greater heights.
“As the fair is made to assist learners in choosing their career paths, we need to also make them aware that the job market is too congested, and that they are capable of helping to create jobs,” he said.
He said students were privileged to be getting first-hand information from individuals who were experts in their fields.
Mr Lekoba thanked the committee for having organised the event, adding that it was crucial as it would help students in selecting their preferred areas of study.
“This day is crucial as it is made to make you aware of different careers and programmes which can help you make informed decisions in future and that future begins now,” he said.
For his part, Universal Church Youth Power group leader, Mr Mompoloki Mothibedi urged students to make the right decisions at a young age as that would earn them a better future.
“Think positively. Stop telling yourselves you can never make it,” he said.
He also urged them to prepare before exams because by doing so, they stood a better chance of succeeding academically.
“Always tell yourself that you are strong and maintain a positive attitude towards your studies.
The life you create now will affect your children in future,” he stated. BOPA
