Ministry has measures to prevent theft
14 Aug 2017
Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism says it has put in place measures to prevent theft of revenues in remote game reserves and national parks, which they cannot share for security reasons.
Answering a question in Parliament on behalf of Mr Tshekedi Khama, Mr Prince Maele said the measures were adhered to at all times, as the ministry had not registered any cases of break-ins into its park offices since the 2013/2014 financial year.
“I can also state that we have not experienced any cases where officers were robbed while in transit to remittance centres,” he said.
Mr Maele further said efforts were underway to make use of measures such as point of sale machines to reduce the amount of cash that was handled and transported by staff.
Member of Parliament for Chobe, Mr Machana Shamukuni had asked the minister on measures his ministry had put in place to ensure safety in storage of government revenue in remote game reserves and national parks, the safety of officers transporting the revenues over long distances and rough terrain to banks for remittance, and whether the security measures, if any, were adequate and adhered to at all times.
