Ministry introduces national alumni programme

The Ministry of Basic Education recently introduced National Alumni programme in addition to the popular Adopt-A-School programme as part of government Public Private Partnerships (PPP) initiative.
That was said by Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraela Goya when officiating at Remmogo Kgari Sechele II Class of 94 donation event in Molepolole on where P15 000 was given to the school.
The assistant minister said the intent and purpose of the programme was to revive the spirit of patriotism and selfless service to the nation as well as the spirit of former students to remember the schools which made them what they were today.
He however appreciated the generosity displayed by Remmogo KS II Class of 94 for their individual contributions towards the P15 000 raised which will be used to address the needs of Kgari Sechele Senior Secondary School to transport vulnerable students to school.
He also said that the donation resonated well with his ministry’s goal of ensuring the right of every eligible learner to education.
He also mentioned that this was a platform for collaboration and networking between learners and Remmogo Class of 94 to share ideas so as to improve the school’s academic performance.
He further urged learners to refrain from vandalising the school property because it has been discovered that shortage of critical teaching and learning inputs was sometimes caused by vandalism.
“Government through the ETSSP and backlog eradication programme is making efforts to maintain school buildings and such efforts are often frustrated by vandalism,” he said.
For his part, the school head Mr Lapologang Kologano said collaboration with stakeholders started way back after realising that the challenges the school faced were beyond the school borders, hence involvement of community leadership such as dikgosi in schools to address the many challenges.
He also explained that the challenges that bedevil schools were not only limited to shortage of books, or inadequate inputs but the biggest of them all was delinquency.
Class of 94 chairperson, Mr Reginald Bakwena said the objective of the alumni group was to give back to the community and identify areas where there were needs and give a helping hand.
Also one of their objectives was to launch the group on the day and partner with the school going forward.
They also contributed 51 paints with the help of Plascon Botswana. ENDS
