10 Aug 2017
Minister of Transport and Communication Mr Kitso Mokaila says the Mmathethe/Tswaaneng road will be designed and constructed under the ESP during the 2017/18 financial year and the project will be advertised this month (August).
Speaking in Parliament recently, Mr Mokaila said a tender for the project would be advertised in August and expected to be awarded end of September.
Further, the minister said the project design would be completed in February 2018 followed by construction in June the same year.
Mr Mokaila said that the consultant who would be awarded the design would be mandated to prospect for suitability and availability of construction materials (aggregates) in the project area.
Therefore, he said, the place and distance where aggregates would be obtained would only be determined and known during the design stage of the project.
The minister added that companies that would provide kerbstones, road and safety rails road signs and markings were not known yet but suppliers would be known at construction stage after the awarding of the tender.
MP for Kanye South, Mr Abram Kesupile had asked the minister to state a time bound schedule for the construction that includes tarring of the Mmathethe/Tswaaneng road.
Mr Kesupile also wanted Mr Mokaila to state where aggregates will come from (place and distance) as well as the companies that will provide Kerbstones, road safety rails, road signs and markings. ENDS
