EN UNEP support draft legislation

Minister of Environment Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Mr Tshekedi Khama has informed Parliament that processes to initiate the drafting of the Climate Change Act/Legislation has started with support from the European Union and the United Nations Environmental Programme.
Answering a question in Parliament recently, Mr Khama said some of the initiatives in place were implemented by various ministries that include but not limited to pilot projects that improve rangelands, enhanced food production methods and promotion of use of renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives.
The minister however said that he could only recommend for development of a green economy policy to the minister responsible and facilitate him on areas to be covered for sustainability relating to environment and tourism.
MP for Gaborone South, Mr Kagiso Molatlhegi had asked the minister if he is aware that green economy is vital to improve human wellbeing over the long term and that green economy policies are also critical for sustainable development.
He said if so, when would Botswana have green economy policy which could help in attaining economic and social gains on several fronts such as cleaner energy technologies, improved access to energy services among others. ENDS
