Letlhakane boys hostel not in use

Assistant Minister of Basic Education Mr Moiseraele Goya says he is aware that there is a boys’ hostel in Letlhakane Senior Secondary School which has never been used since it was constructed.
Answering a question in Parliament from the MP for Boteti East Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe, Mr Goya said the block was constructed as part of a planned upgrade for the academic and boarding facilities at an approximate cost of P49 million with a capacity of 128 boarders.
He said the block was constructed in 2003 and was handed over by Tswana Construction in 2007 but the structure was not used as it has some structural defects.
Meanwhile My Goya told the Parliament that the senior secondary project was initiated and managed from headquarters in collaboration with department of buildings and engineering services and that the defects in the hostels will be attended to in the next financial year.
MP Lelatisitswe had asked the minister if he is aware that Letlhakane Secondary School hostel that was never used since its construction and how much was used to build the block and how many students can be accommodated in the same block when fully functional.
He had also wanted the minister to state which year the block it was constructed and the handed over date.
In addition, the MP wanted to know why this structure has been neglected for many years after investing public funds. ENDS
