Photography business provides for Lekoto
10 Aug 2017
Twenty-five-year old Mr Fatti Lekoto of Dukwi has found a niche in photography to run away from the pangs of hunger.
As a young person, he decided not to follow the route of his peers of having fun whenever he had money, but to save the little he could at any given time to start his idea of opening a photography business.
In an interview, Mr Lekoto said he was not discouraged by the fact that he was staying in a remote area, but decided to turn some of the challenges into opportunities.
He, however, noted that the arrival of smart phones presented a challenge to him as people could easily capture memorable moments.
Mr Lekoto said after completing his junior certificate in 2011, his results did not allow him to continue to the next stage, but that he did not despair as his goal was to engage in the photography business.
He enrolled for a six months information technology course in 2015 to familiarise himself with a computer since he would be using it on a daily bases with his camera.
He said after completing the course, there were no funds to start the business, but decided that “there are many ways of killing a cat.”
He took a bathroom scale every day to the mall for people to weigh themselves for a minimal price of P2.
He said he raised some money which was enough to buy a Canon photo print machine.
Mr Lekoto noted that the machine printed captured pictures without the need for a dark room.
He said he takes his business to the most remote places to offer his services, adding that he captured passport photos, family or group photos and special request photos from customers.
He said a photo costs P12.
He said he made about P200 per day moving around different areas.
He also has an ear piercing business and the photography business.
He said in a good month he could make about P6 000, adding that he wanted to further his studies so that he could be able to start up a new better business. ENDS
