09 Aug 2017

Assistant minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Thato Kwerepe said he was not aware that some high ranking officers of government are allowed to campaign for any elections when they still in office, let alone been allowed or permitted to do so.

He stated that if would have been of great assistance to him had the ‘‘Honourable member provided information regarding who may have possibly granted such permission and when, as to my knowledge public officers have never stood for elections nor campaigned for anyone, at least whilst occupying office.’’

He stated for the record that the terms of Public Service officer’s employment as provided for in the Public Service Act or any applicable Laws and Regulations prohibits them from politics activism.

Mr kwerepe was responding to the question asked by Member of Parliament, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi, who had asked why high ranking officers of government were allowed to campaign for elections when they were still in office. ENDS
