Minister of Basic Education Dr Unity Dow, says teaching and learning in Mowana Junior Secondary school was hampered by unserviceable equipment and school furniture.
Answering a question in Parliament on August 7, Minister Dow said currently her ministry was busy assessing the scope of works for the school, and minor repairs, including the replacement of writing board, which she said would be completed by the end of November.
Furthermore, she said her ministry has a policy that school tables and desks should be repaired and the school had been instructed accordingly.
“Other furnishings including chairs are being procured centrally and we will assist the school before the end of August. The delivery of new textbooks and materials to Mowana Junior Secondary school was on-going and will help ameliorate this challenge,” she said.
Mahalapye West MP, Mr Joseph Molefe had asked the minister if she was aware that teaching and learning is currently hampered by unserviceable equipment and school furniture at Mowana Junior Secondary School; if so, when would writing boards in classrooms at the school be replaced, school furniture for students and teachers be issued, and text books and other teaching requisites that are obsolete be replaced.
