Govt sponsors GIPS Botho students

Assistant Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Mr Fidelis Molao says 1 113 students were sponsored at Gaborone Institute of Professional Studies (GIPS) and Botho College in 2010, but that no students were sponsored at Gaborone University College of Law that year.

Mr Molao said with regard to the distribution of institutions, 726 students were sponsored at Botho whilst the remaining 387 were sponsored at GIPS at its three campuses in Francistown (82 students), Gaborone (279 students) and Lobatse (26 students).

Mr Molao noted that Botho University was able to graduate 596 students with professional diplomas in IT, BSc degree and AAT qualifications.

He said they graduated 289 degrees in 2013; 285 Pprofessional diplomas and 22 with AAT in 2013 while GIPS graduated 292 students in 2012.

The assistant minister said 130 students dropped out at Botho whilst 95 did so at GIPS, but explained that reasons for drop-outs had not been established.

MP for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister to state the number of students sponsored at GIPS and Botho College in 2010, students who graduated at the said institutions, and when, and also those who dropped out and why. ENDS
