ICT trainees donate to pupils

09 Aug 2017

Masunga Village Reading Room (VRR), Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) trainees have donated toiletries to Masunga Primary School standard seven pupils as a way of showing their caring and compassionate spirit.

The trainees recently presented the girls a pack of sanitary pads, bathing soap and vaseline whereas boys were given Vaseline worth P1800.

In an interview with BOPA, Masunga Primary School senior teacher guidance, Ms Joyce Masunga, said she was grateful for the helping hand received from Masunga ICT trainees and being recognised among the whole of Masunga community.

Ms Masunga stated that they would forever cherish the love they received from ICT trainees as they found it fit to help their younger sisters and brothers.

She urged them to continue showing support in their community and help where there was need, adding that as teachers they too would help where they could.

For her part the deputy school head, Ms Cecillia Letota indicated the importance of working together as parents and teachers for the livelihood and future of children.

She said that cooperation between the community and teachers also helped the students as they would see that they were not forgotten.

According to Masunga VRR Librarian, Ms Onkabetse Mbulawa, donations and giving back to the society was a way of selling their services to the community.

Ms Mbulawa added that they intended to continue with the initiative every year, focusing on helping the standard seven pupils both boys and girls.

She said that some reach puberty at a young age and could not even afford to buy a pack of pads, adding that they believed that donating pads would make a difference in the lives of those affected.

She also stated that they wanted to show people that library was not all about reading and use of computers but also engaging with the community and helping where there was need as initiated by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

Ms Mbulawa also urged other organisations and individuals to continue showing their social responsibility to their communities, indicating that even small donations could make a difference. ENDS
