Fire outbreak detroys school kitchen
08 Aug 2017
Tsodilo Junior Secondary School’s kitchen in Maun was recently gutted down by a raging inferno which left the school management with lots of unanswered questions on the cause.
Although the cause of the fire was not known, the school head, Mr Phuluweni Thapo suspected that it might have been caused by an electric pot which was not switched off by the kitchen staff.
The pot, he said was earlier on the day repaired by Department of Technical Services (DTS) technicians who left them on upon completing their duty.
Mr Thapo said they suspected that the kitchen staff might have forgotten to switch the pot off when they knocked off resulting in overheating which might have caused the fire.
He said the school was preparing for the students as they were coming back from the holidays by making sure that all pots were in good condition.
Mr Thapo said after being alerted, the Department of Fire in Maun managed to put off the fire which had already gutted down the school’s kitchen.
He further said instigations by fire department and DTS technicians were still continuing to determine the cause of the fire.
As for damage, he estimated that it might amount to about P400 000 as two electric pots, two gas pots, a freezer, a stove as well as some kitchen utensils were burned down.
Mr Thapo however said as the school management they managed to put in motion a contingency plan to ensure that students were fed. ENDS
