No scuba diving police officers in Chobe

There have been a total of three drowning incidents reported in Kasane from 2014 to date.
Answering a question in Parliament on August 7, the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi further mentioned that there were no trained scuba diving police officers deployed to any police station in the Chobe District.
Mr Kgathi however said there were trained scuba divers stationed at Special Support Group in Gaborone who cover all incidents of drowning around the country.
He further stated that there are three boats in the Chobe District to assist the Police in dealing with drowning incidents reported to them in the area.
He said it has to be highlighted that the Botswana Defence Force (BDP) has scuba divers and boats based in Kasane which are used to support BPS.
Member of Parliament for Chobe, Mr Machana Shamukuni had asked the minister to state the number of drowning incidents reported to the police in Kasane from 2014 to date.
MP Shamukuni had wanted to know the number of police officers trained in scuba diving that have been deployed to any police station in the Chobe District.
He further wanted to know the type of equipment at the disposal of the police officers to expeditiously assist the public and potentially save lives whenever drowning incidents are reported. ENDS
