Ministry commissioned facility management

08 Aug 2017

Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele says health facilities in Kanye South constituency have  experienced challenges regarding  maintenance.

Speaking in Parliament Mr Makgalemele said the challenge was widespread saying his ministry had recently commissioned facility management consultants for all District Health Management Teams to be based in the districts to meet their maintenance challenges.

Minister Makgalemele noted that facilities management consultants were handed over to the Kanye District Health Management Team on 27 July 2017 to address the maintenance issues in the constituency and explained that the consultant would start off by doing the maintenance scoping and audit which would be followed by the maintenance plan which would be ready by the end of October 2017.

He said the absence of a government hospital in Kanye did not mean government  was not interested in constructing one.

Instead, the assistant minister said the construction of a health facility in any locality was done following a set of factors such as disease burden, proximity to other facilities, availability of funds, the population served, services provided and previous commitments and construction of health facilities.

Minister Makgalemele noted that the presence of the Kanye SDA Hospital and facilities such as Athlone Hospital and even Princess Marina Hospital provided a wide range of services that would meet the need of this constituency.

Assistant Minister Makgalemele was responding to a question in Parliament by Member of Parliament for Kanye South, Mr Abram Kesupile who had asked the minister if she was aware that clinics in the Kanye South Constituency have not received serious/major maintenance since the takeover by Ministry of Health and Wellness and if so to state a time-bound maintenance schedule for clinics in the constituency for the current Financial Year 2017/2018.
