No funds for Dukwi police station

08 Aug 2017

Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi says Botswana Police Service was allocated a plot in Dukwi to construct a police station and staff housing.

Mr Kgathi said the plot was allocated on April 17, 2009 and not 2002 as the MP suggested.

He noted that the Dukwi police station was planned for design stage in NDP 10 for office and staff houses, but that it did not materialise due to  financial constraints which resulted in the scaling down or deferment of most projects in the plan.

Minister Kgathi said the scaling down phenomenon affected the police station during NDP 10 as well as NDP 11.

“Currently Dukwi police station is supported by Tutume, Nata and Sowa Police Station in its coverage for crime prevention in the whole catchment area,” said Mr Kgathi.

MP for Nata/Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga had asked the minister if he was aware that the Dukwi police station was allocated a plot in 2002 to construct a police station and staff house.

He also wanted to know when would the project start and what caused the delay as well as to state plans to address the situation. ENDS
