Goya commends OSET for heeding Presidents call

Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraele Goya has commended Out of school and Education Training (OSET) for their noble gesture of providing shelter to a needy family in Kang.
Speaking at a handover of a two and a half house and a bus stop shelter in Kang recently, Mr Goya said OSET had heeded the President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s appeal of reaching out to the less privileged and giving them dignified lives.
Government, he said was working tirelessly to fight unemployment and abject poverty amongst its citizens and called for collaboration between different stakeholders to assist government to close the existing gaps.
He said shelter was one of the necessary needs in human life adding that OSET did a marvelous job, so that the Seabela’s family could achieve self-actualisation in their life.
Also, he encouraged the beneficiaries to take a good care of the house and not to sell it.
Furthermore, he implored families to look after each other for them to live dignified lives and not to rely only on government’s food baskets.
He further lauded OSET for constructing a bus stop shelter along Kang-Hukuntsi road.
He said the shelter would protect travelers during unbearable weather conditions while waiting to board buses to their destinations.
He said OSET Tirelo Setshaba participants did their best to improve lives of the less unfortunate in their locality despite earning less money and for roping in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, businesses and individuals to ensure that the project becomes a success.
He said government built a road but they were no bus shelters included in the projects, in that way.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, Kgosi Basadi Seipone commended OSET and Seventh Day Adventist Church for their benevolence.
She said their efforts had left long lasting footprints in the village of Kang as the beneficiaries would live dignified life.
When giving the overview of the project, principal and administration education officer, Ms Dorris Mogapi said the project started in 2015 by their Tirelo Setshaba participants, who were tasked to perform social responsibility activities during their tenure as participants.
She said they liaised with Social and Community Development (S&CD) office to assist them identify any needy family in their locality so that they could build a house for them.
She said they raised funds but the money was not enough and SDA church came on board and donated more than P20 000 to assist with the project.
Ms Mogapi said they also got donations from business communities, and individuals hence allowed them to start and finish the project.
For his part, Mr Mokhanene Gaothusi appreciated the gift from the donors and wished them well in their every aspect of their lives.
In his closing remarks, Kgalagadi District Council chairperson, Mr Justice Nkwane, lauded the donors for living the vision of being a compassionate and caring nation.
He encouraged them not to be discouraged when the journey gets tough, but to continue to extend the helping hand to other areas. ENDS
