First Aid skills paramount

06 Aug 2017

First Aid trainer, Mr Donald Habana of Optimax Centre in Kanye has highlighted the importance of first aid basic skills in every organisation.

Mr Habana said this in an interview at the Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA) pre-school teachers’ first aid training session in Kanye recently.

He said with the first aid basic skills acquired, individuals were empowered to save lives hence the need for every individual to acquire skills as a precautionary measure for safety in the workplace.

Mr Habana implored pre-school authorities to have at least two teachers equipped with first aid skills in their premises because they provided care for fragile children and dealt with them on daily basis.

However in consideration of the need, he said Optimax Centre decided to group the KAA  pre-school teachers for the training at a discounted fee, so as to accommodate all interested participants.

He said trained pre-school teachers were now empowered thus they would be able to provide immediate, appropriate, adequate and needed treatment when need arised.

Mr Habana said government schools and other institutions required first aid training which had been overlooked over the years stating that sometimes people realised the importance of such a need after a disaster had happened.

He said teachers involved in sports, people who worked in kitchens and fire prone areas needed first aid empowerment the most.

Born To Learn English Medium School head, Ms Tsele Seanokeng from Molapowabojang said she find peace in helping other people, something which she said encouraged her to be part of the training.

She said as a Christian she believed that it was God’s will that individuals should have a passionate spirit of helping one another.

Ms Seanokeng shared the same sentiments with Mr Habana in that first aid training was crucial for pre-school teachers, noting at her school they utilised the opportunity by training two teachers.

Another trainee, Ms Dimpho Soriletsile, a coordinator at Olorato Children Care Centre in Lotlhakane East said first aid basics were essential in executing their mandate.

She expressed gratitude for the training noting such a platform would accord pre-school teachers an opportunity to acquire first aid skills that would enable them to protect children. ENDS
