273 qualify for programme packaging

06 Aug 2017

The number of beneficiaries that have qualified for packaging under the Poverty Eradication Programme in the Gaborone Central Constituency is 273, Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Thato Kwerepe, has said.

Responding to a question in Parliament from Gaborone Central MP, Dr Phenyo Butale, Mr Kwerepe said out of these, 105 beneficiaries had been packaged.

“For the remaining 168, 11 beneficiaries relocated, while three passed away, 32 no longer fall within the poverty bracket, and this leaves 122 beneficiaries who are now being packaged,” he added.

Currently, he said 69 projects were operational and the other 36 had not fully taken off, adding that beneficiaries for the 36 projects were being assisted to operationalise their projects.

“The number of those that have graduated from poverty through this programme is currently being determined,” he said.

Dr Butale had asked the minister to inform Parliament of the number of people from Gaborone Central Constituency that had benefited from Poverty Eradication Programme.

He also wanted to know the number of those still on the waiting list and the number of those who graduated from poverty through the programme to date. ENDS
