Seize opportunities

Former athlete, Calfornia Molefe has implored the youth to seize opportunities presented by the introduction of athletics in constituency competitions.
Speaking at the launch of constituency athletics competition at Charleshill on Saturday, Molefe said if the youth could grab that opportunity, some may end up
He observed that athletics is the most successful sport code in the country and some of the athletes solely earn a living through it, citing the likes of Isaac Makwala,Baboloki Thebe ,Amantle Montsho and Nijel Amos.
Molefe who won silver medal in 400 metre at the 2006 IAFF World indoor champions in Moscow and Gold medal in 400 metres at the 2007 all African games told his audience that an athlete should be an icon of Botho, shun alcohol and drug abuse adding that doping could ruin ones’ future in sport.
He was of the view that sport persons should have positive friends, as well as mentors and above other things should have faith or believe in God.
Molefe said establishment of athletics club that were affiliated to Botswana Athletics Association could also accelerate the efforts made by Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development and the rewards would be overwhelming.
A youth officer at Charleshill, Bophelo Kenosi stated they found it fit to introduce athletics in constituency competitions as their role was to unearth talent, which the youth could use to earn a living through .
In doing so, she said they are able to divert the youth from criminal activities as it keeps them busy, saying that, “idle mind is the devil’s workshop.”
Charleshill senior assistant council secretary, Christopher Maramba pledged full support behind constituency competitions, saying that they would make sure that they were held every cycle without fail. ENDS
