Council to prioritise roads maintenance

01 Aug 2017

Molepolole Administrative Authority (MAA) Senior Assistant Council Secretary (SACS) Mr Gofaone Kgabanyane has assured councilors that the council is to expedite improvement of roads in the area.
He said the breakdown of three graders delayed improvement in most of the roads.
Responding to councilors’ comments during the just ended MAA sub council meeting, Mr Kgabanyane said the sub district council was working round the clock to ensure that roads were maintained in most areas.
He expressed optimism that two graders would be on the roads soon and that the third one had already been availed to start work.
Asked when funding of constituency projects would commence, Mr Kgabanyane explained that all relevant processes had been completed but only awaiting for the release of funds by the Finance Ministry.

Mr Kgabanyane was hopeful that this time around there would be smooth undertaking of constituency projects because there were no appeals which haunted the previous allocations of tenders.

He further briefed the council about plans to renovate the only Molepolole community centre as well as the old Library services to create working space for some of the council workers. The project he said was planned for the current financial year with the tender already approved.

Responding to concern raised by councillor Kopanang Tshaakane of Loologane/Boatlame to increase the number of headman of arbitration at Loologane settlement, Kgosi Lawrence Mohaladi indicated that it would not be possible to introduce the second headman of arbitration at Loologane when the current post had not been upgraded.

Councillor Michael Bagopi of Mokgopeetsane had wanted to know when the post of headman of arbitration at Legonono would be filled, but Kgosi Mohaladi stated that progress on the matter was affected by the dissenting voices on who should be appointed. He however, assured the meeting that the matter would soon be brought to finality.

Kgosi Mohaladi however appealed to councillors to always verify some of bogosi issues affecting their respective areas before they were brought to council sessions.

Meanwhile Lentsweletau Sub Landboard Clerk Ms Tsholofelo Otukile refuted claims by Kopong East Councillor Patrick Gabanamotse that for the past 10 years land allocation had been delayed.

Ms Otukile said land allocation was last done in June 2016.

Ms Otukile said what could be a challenge currently was the release of layout maps. She noted that, the National Land Policy of 2015 stipulated that no land allocations should be made without layout maps.

For his part Ntlolengwae councillor,  Solomon Ramalejane wanted to know why infilling of plots at Ntloolengwae was taking long for which he was told that it was not always possible to act on such before proper consultation with Water Utilities Corporation and Botswana Power Corporation  as major partners.
