Michel Abueng became the star of the day on Friday after scoring four goals for Mogoditshane senior secondary school girls’ team to be crowned BISA football champions.
Mogoditshane senior secondary school clinched the title after thrashing Matshekge senior secondary school by 6 goals to nil in a thrilling, back-and-forth encounter.
Abueng opened the goals seven minutes into the pitch following some superb dribbling by Kenanao Nyambe on the right wing, pushing out Matshekge defenders’, Pearl Motenga and Sethunya Mogwathe to the far end before crossing the ball into the 18th area for Abueng to tap it in with ease.
Two minutes later, Mogoditshane‘s danger girl, Lesego Radiakanyo connected well with a volley, but her shot was saved by Matshekge ‘s goal minder Dimpho Motshelo who unfortunately spilled it right infront of the on form Abueng to make it 2-nil.
A well taken corner kick by Mogoditshane ‘s Refilwe Segararegha found Abueng well positioned in the 16th area ,controlling the cross with her chest before unleashing a half volley into Motshelo’ s goal post to make it 3-0.
Seconds later, Abueng scored her fourth goal after driving past Matshekge’s napping defenders.
The goal seems to have taken life out of Matshekge girls, but like the final kicks of a dying horse they did not give up.
Four minutes after Mogoditshane’s fourth goal, Matshekge managed to break and penetrate through their opponents’ defence, but lady luck was not on their side as the team captain ended up sending the ball above the bar.
The teams went for a break, Mogoditshane leading by 5 goals to nil after Bonang Lelefitlhetse stepped up and found herself one on one with the keeper and converted a very calm and composed shot, sending her the wrong way.
Matshekge came back revived on the second round, having made some few changes, pulling out Goitsemodimo Gaorengwe for Febi Moyo, who strengthened the defense making sure the team do enough to hold opponents on defensively.
Just as the second round was about to come to stoppage, Lesego Radiakanyo finished off a great attacking play by the team captain Bonang Lelefitlhetse, sending Matshekge home with a 6-0 thrashing.
Mogoditshane senior couch, Mojaboswa Bonno commended the School of Excellence for Sports program for his school’s performance, saying he has technically good players who have mastered ball control, accuracy and focus attained from the program.
Matshekge senior couch, Kelebogile Dingalo blamed his loss on playing against a team made up of the national team players.
He said 90 per cent of the opponents are in the national team and they train on artificial turf, adding that it was the first time his players played on this kind of ground, so it was not easy for them to adapt to the conditions.
The boys’ finals had pitched Lobatse senior secondary school against Ledumang senior secondary and the former won by three goals to one.
BISA games have in the past unearthed some sports personalities of note like the likes of Kabelo Dambe, and some of the national youth netball team players, ‘dinaletsana’. ENDS
