Beauty pageant to build self esteem

27 Jun 2013

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has been hailed for introducing beauty pageant initiative for communities in remote areas to promote the Affirmative Action.

Some North West District councilors said the initiative is a good move in the right direction as it would indeed expose RADs to a world of competition and build a sense of self-esteem amongst them.

They said communities in remote areas felt neglected and the initiative would encourage them to fully participate and showcase their talent.

Councillors said the initiative would empower and help disadvantaged ladies to fight unemployment problems. They supported the initiative and emphasized that it should produce the intended goals.

Council chairman, Mr Lathang Molonda informed the councillors that the pageant titled “Miss Ethnicity-Botswana will be held under the theme “unearthing Natural Beauty and Talent”.

He said the competition would start with the search for two beauty queens at the district level, who will represent the district at the national competition in November 2013.

Mr Molonda said the winning queen will be responsible for the promotion of the RADP Affirmative Action noting that the department has started mobilizing for registration of individuals who want to compete in the pageant.

He noted that preparations for the event are on-going including sourcing of sponsors as it does not have a budget.

Councillors were urged to fully embrace the initiative and requested them to accord the contestants from their respective areas all the necessary support for the success of the initiative. ENDS
