30 Jul 2017
Dry grading of roads has been cancelled and the sub-council will be focusing on spot improvements following the devastating state of the roads after rains caused by floods, Mr Goaletsa keitumetse informed MAA/Lentsweletau sub-council.
He however said access roads for villages along the Molepolole/Lentsweletau road would be improved to ensure easy access for residents in the areas.
Presenting a report on the performance of the sub district through respective sub committees in line with National Development Plan 11, he discussed development activities of both local and central government agencies between April-June 2017.
Mr Keitumetse said the report, which covers outsourced periodic and routine maintenance projects in the sub-district from April-June 2017, has seen some planned projects being halted due to insufficient funds.
He, however, said the Molepolole/Thamaga road was awaiting the evaluation committee selection at an estimated cost of P24,5 million, whilst the resealing of the Molepolole-Lephepe was estimated at over P85 million.
Another speaker from Ipelegeng programme, Mr Tshokologo Madibana apraised councillors on progress of Ipegeng which included among others, litter picking around the ward, debushing, trench de-silting along major roads and environmental policing at a cost of over P21 million.
He said the programme was aware of challenges such as demand and called for more numbers engaged in Ipelegeng, but were hampered by shortage of funds to increase numbers and time one take engaged.
Regarding waste collection through Ipelegeng, Cllr Mookami Mantimane of Loologa ward in Molepolole raised concern over non-collection of litter in his ward because of transport challenge whereas Ipelegeng report was indicating that where there was challenge of transport council availed a vehicle to help in the collection.
He pleaded with Ipelegeng officers to strive to give all areas/wards with similar challenge equal assistance when there was a challenge faced by service providers engaged under the programme, and that the report had since indicated that where the problem was severe and appropriate, waste would be incinerated.
Cllr Kolane Kolane said more projects should be availed so as to cover more people who were still to benefit from the programme.
He said on other instances, many people were engaged on rotational basis on few availed positions.
Specially elected Cllr Tshenolo Leshomo expressed concern over how distribution of supplying bread under the programme was performed, saying some beneficiaries take long before they could be engaged by the programme. ENDS
