Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services does not allocate open spaces to private enterprises but reserves and allocates them to respective councils for management.

Assistant Minister, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi said Plot 7728 was allocated to Gaborone City Council in October 2008.

The plot, he said, had not been awarded to any private business and “my belief is that Gaborone City Council will consider the application by Boikhutso ward development committee in accordance with their set guidelines and regulations dealing with management of open spaces.”

The ministry, he said was not aware of any request from Boikhutso WDC through GCC for allocation of Lot 7728 Gaborone to develop a Sport Recreational Park.

Gaborone Central MP, Dr Phenyo Butale had wanted to know the procedure in allocation of  open spaces to private enterprises and whether such gave priority to community projects or not.

Dr Butale also wanted to know the owner of Plot 7728 in Extension 27 and if it was awarded to any private business.

Also, the MP wanted to know whether the minister was aware that Boikhutso WDC through GCC made a request to the ministry to be allocated the open space to develop a sport recreational park after securing funds from First National Bank. ENDS
