Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Patrick Ralotsia says the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) transport and housing allowance for academic staff will be budgeted for in the 2018/19 financial year.

Gaborone North MP, Mr Haskings Nkaigwa had asked if the minister was aware that BUAN academic staff were paid less than their counterparts at UB despite having been appointed under the same conditions of service and to state when would the situation be addressed.

Mr Ralotsia said he was aware that academic staff at BUAN were paid lower than their counterparts at UB since the time when BUAN was an associate of UB from 1991-2015.

He said the issue arised when UB introduced transport and housing allowances at 20 per cent and 15 per cent respectively, which BUAN could not address on account of budgetary constraints. ENDS
