Appointments based on training experience
27 Jul 2017
Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Patrick Ralotsia says acting deans at the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) were appointed on the basis of their line of training and relevant experience.
Mr Ralotsia emphasised that acting appointments do not require a recruitment process, as acting was a prerogative of the supervising authority.
He added that the appointments were not advertised because they were not substantive positions.
Gaborone North MP, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked the minister what criteria was used for appointment of acting deans, what recruitment process was used to select people who had been appointed by the governing council, and why the positions were not advertised to give other deserving members of staff a chance to apply.
Mr Nkaigwa also asked if the minister would consider having the positions advertised for transparency purposes. ENDS
