Establishment for nurses in hospitals remains challenge

Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele says there is shortage of nurses at Mahalapye District Hospital.
Mr Makgalemele said the establishment for nurses at Mahalapye District Hospital was 245, and that currently there were 227 nurses giving a shortfall of 18.
He said in 2014/15, 29 nurses were transferred and 23 replaced giving a shortfall of six, adding that there were no transfers in 2015/16
Mr Makgalemele said in 2016/17, 60 nurses were transferred and that 48 were replaced giving a shortfall of 12.
He said there was a challenge of meeting the establishment for nurses in all hospitals, and that the staff shortfalls would be filled this financial year through local recruitment.
He said the two revenue collectors who were transferred would be replaced by the end of October 2017.
The MP for Mahalapye West, Mr Joseph Molefe had asked the minister to state the shortage of nurses against the establishment, and the number of nurses who were transferred out of the hospital in the years 2014, 2015 and 2016, and the number of those who had been replaced.
He also wanted to know when the shortage would be addressed, and when the two revenue collectors who were transferred would be replaced. ENDS
