191 employees reach compulsory retirement age in 20172018

Assistant Minister of Basic Education says 191 employees have reached the compulsory retirement age in the 2017/2018 financial year in his ministry.

Mr Moiseraele Goya said for the 2018/2019 financial year, 301 employees would have reached the compulsory retirement age.

He said the technical staff was trained on a regular basis to upgrade their expertise, prepare them for succession and also to keep them abreast with technological advancements in their fields.

Mr Goya further noted that the ministry’s records indicated that they might expect to have just two technical posts created by retiring employees in the financial year 2018/2019.

Specially elected Member of Parliament, Mr Mephato Reatile had asked the minister the number of employees who had reached the compulsory retirement age in financial year 2017/2018, the number of those who would reach compulsory retirement age in financial year 2018/2019.

He also wanted to know whether the ministry had made arrangements for succession with regard to those who held technical posts, and the number of technical posts that would be created by retiring employees. ENDS
