Career fairs useful to learners
25 Jul 2017
Guidance and counselling teacher at Kopong Junior Secondary School, Ms Tebogo Mogoge says a career fair is useful to students as it empowers them with knowledge about the world of work.
Speaking at a career fair at the school recently, which was held under the theme; "Striving towards building the future," Ms Mogoge said career fairs nurtured learners to be resilient as they faced the challenge of unemployment.
She said as the guidance and counselling management, they found it important to host career fairs annually as it was the only tool to broaden the students scope about available careers outside school and to encourage self employment as it was the best way in the 21st century.
Ms Mogoge implored students to consider vocational training in order to curb unemployment and create job opportunities.
One of the exhibitors at the fair, Mr Goitseone Mokonopi, who is a former student at Kopong Junior Secondary School, urged students to be optimistic about the future.
Mr Mokonopi, who is the manager of Eagle Digital Productions, encouraged students to dream big and work hard to achieve their ambitions, emphasising that determination and hard work payed.
He urged students to use their talent and to follow their passion if they hoped to realise their aspirations, emphasising that their destiny was in their hands.
He also advised students to refrain from drugs and alcohol consumptions.
He also urged them to seek advice when the need arose, adding that social workers and dikgosi were there for them. ENDS
