Kgosi Gunny Moses of Monarch in Francistown has urged members of the scouts movement to be obedient and disciplined and avoid lawlessness.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Jamboree scout camp held at Central Park recently, Kgosi Moses highlighted that where there was no discipline there was chaos.
He urged them to be disciplined in order to be able to work as a team, avoid evil things such as bullying, missing lessons and using drugs.
Kgosi Moses urged scout members to reject wayward behavior and rather help in the development and growth of the economy.
“We should talk and stop the spread of HIV, passion killings, hatred, abusive languages and become people who will be responsible,” said Kgosi Moses.
Kgosi Moses further encouraged scouts members to speak out on gender based violence and to provide knowledge that brings peace and tranquility in society.
He also challenged them to defend the oppressed, love the orphans and people living with disability and also respect their parents.
For his part, the national scout commissioner, Mr Onkarabile Jackson emphasised that the way that social networks were used was proving challenging to the society, adding that only scouts members could help curb this.
“During our camps, we try to create awareness to our children and youth on the challenges brought by social networking and teach them on how to use them effectively,” said Jackson.
Mr Jackson also added that they also encouraged scouts members to avoid cutting down trees but rather to plant them for their survival.
Furthermore, he also noted that they used children from different parts of the country to promote cultural exchange and friendship.
Principal education officer, North East region, Mr Shingile Malibala stated that the Jamboree camp had been brought to Tachila Reserve so as to empower young people to conserve natural resources by reducing deforestation.
“We need to continue conserving nature. Therefore there is going to be a tree planting activity before the end of the camp,” said Mr Malibala.
He also said they were expecting to see a behavioural change among scout members. ENDS
