Jwaneng Galaxy FC on July 21 recognised players and supporters who contributed to the team’s success in the 2016/17 season.
The just-ended season saw Jwaneng-based club emerging the Mascom Top 8 Cup winner as well as runner-up for the BTC premiership, which was snatched by Township Rollers FC.
Speaking at the awards ceremony recently, Jwaneng Mine general manager, Albert Milton commended the club and its stakeholders for a season characterised by hardwork and mixed emotions.
He said the ceremony was not only about honouring hardwork but also evaluating and planning on how the team could strive to be one of the best brands in the country.
“Football is such a demanding sport and it is therefore important that at the end of each season, we recognise the efforts of those who would have contributed to the success of the entire season. Indeed stakeholders, such as team management, technical staff, players, supporters and sponsors deserve a pat on the back for their contribution to the just ended season,” he said.
He said throughout the season, the players displayed the highest level of discipline, dedication and hardwork which resulted in their overall success.
He challenged them to aim higher in the next season as they will also have to compete at the CAF Cup.
He also commended the sponsors who, despite the economic challenges supported and sustained the club.
“Despite the challenging economic times, you have indeed remained pillars of Galaxy strength and stayed resolute to sustain the team. I therefore implore you to continue with the support for this team and encourage others to be likewise,” he noted.
For his part, the new Galaxy FC president Thaloganyo Morake said he was impressed by the team’s performance despite being relatively new in the elite league.
He said since its formation three years ago, the team has been performing well and managed to qualify for the Mascom Top 8 in its first year in the premier league.
He was equally impressed with the kind of support the team enjoyed from the supporters, which he said has contributed immensely to the good performance.
He underscored the need to unite as the Galaxy community so that the team could keep impressing.
“Galaxy FC allows us to put aside all our differences and stand united; it has given us all a sense of pride and belonging. And these two elements cannot be over-emphasised as they are what makes a community strong,” he said.
Meanwhile, veteran footballer Boitumelo Mafoko was named Player of the Season while Thabo Leinanyane and Anthony Gouws got Player’s Player and Supporters’ Player of the Season respectively.
Top Goal Scorer went to Thero Setsile, Most Disciplined Player to Gilbert Baruti and Chairman’s Award went to the kit manager Molefe Masuge and the youth coach Kagiso Gabasiane.
The outgoing president Tumelo Ntlhayakgosi honoured two supporters; Letlhogonolo Mapoka and Martha Mokganya with the president’s Award. ENDS
