Maun Land Tribunal office sensitise public

Maun Division Land Tribunal court member Mr Dizzy Mpoloka has called on residents of Maun to utilise their office for planning and tribal land appeals emanating from their region and the Tawana Land Board.

The Maun division office which started its operations in August 2016, he said covered planning and tribal land appeals for North West and Ghanzi districts and parts of Central District which were dealt with at Palapye before.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Boseja ward on July 20 in Maun, Mr Mpoloka informed residents that the land tribunal was a court of justice intended to provide a platform that was affordable, flexible and simple for Batswana to access justice.  

“We wish to establish some partnership with Kgosi together with your village development committee to disseminate information to the community on the procedures for lodging your appeals,” he said.

He further encouraged residents that appeals should be brought to the land tribunal offices within one month on becoming aware of that decision.

He added that during court hearing, complainants were free to represent themselves, engage an attorney or a better informed relative may assist them present their cases.

Furthermore, Mr Mpoloka said that judgment for an appeal should be delivered within two months. He however said the judgment could be appealed to the High Court.

In addition he urged members of the community to acquire all the Acts and Policies used by the Land Tribunal in determining cases to help them know what the law says on issues of land.

In his welcome remarks, Boseja ward Kgosi Kegaisamang Ramokwena thanked the Maun Land Tribunal division for educating the community on their operations.

Kgosi Ramokwena noted that issues of land were a serious concern in the community since people always talked about it but were not well informed on how to approach the issues. ENDS
