Umbrella of Unity recognises leaders

23 Jul 2017

The elderly have played a pivotal role in laying down the tranquility and democracy that the country enjoys.

Minister of Employment, Labour Security and Skills Development, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo said this when officiating at a ceremony in Letlhakeng on July 21 to recognise some residents who had played a part in the village’s development.

Mr Mabeo said the former leaders, who included political leaders, magosi and businessmen had sacrificed a lot for the country, and that their deeds should be a challenge to the current crop of leaders.

He said their effort at developing the country required them to use their personal resources.

Mr Mabeo also advised the former leaders to always avail their wisdom to the current crop of leaders whenever needed, and applauded the Umbrella of Unity for their thought in recognising the past leaders.

Former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Peter Siele also advised that former leaders should not be treated as expired goods as they had done a lot for the country.

He said it was a norm that past leaders were forgotten with time, but hailed Umbrella of Unity for being an exception in remembering them.

He said such figures were sculptors of the nation and should be treated with the greatness they deserved.

Umbrella of Unity chairperson, Mr Anderson Mathibe said his association was formed in 2001 and formally registered in 2012 with the objective of bringing unity to the community of Letlhakeng and surrounding areas.

He said they want to show that they needed to pull together to take the region to a better future. ENDS
