The chairperson of Lady Khama Charitable Trust (LKCT) says the main objective of the trust is to raise funds for charities that deal with vulnerable women and children.
Speaking during an interview at the LKCT family fun day on July 21, Mr Dale ter Haar said they estimationed the family fun day would raise close to P250 000.
“This event was divided into three categories. It started with the Family Fun Day which was sponsored by Avani Hotel and Casino. The annual event comprises several activities to keep all members of the family entertained throughout the day,” he said, adding that they had a kid’s park where they brought new things for all age groups.
He said funds raised would be disbursed to other charitable organisations.
Speaking on the President’s Cup challenge, Mr Ter Haar said for a team to enter they need to pay a joining fee of P10 000.
He said President Khama’s annual participation was significant, but said even if the President did not participate, people would still want to participate.
“Of course people want to cycle against him and see him in person. He adds value in that regard, and also as the patron of LKCT he guides us as a trust because he has a lot of experience,” he said.
Some of the sponsors that participated included Spar, Avani, Puma and Diacore.
People were treated to Chill Step Pop-Up Gallery House (a walk through display of local arts and culture) and Mafitlhakgosi Traditional Dance Troup and a mobile sports pub also treated mums and dads with traditional games.
There was also live music from Cedric, Fifi and Liesel, DJ’s Homie, Shoes and the EDM Rangers from Chill Step Sundays.
Mr Ter Haar added that the event had a variety of food stalls, including Sweats from Heaven and Marcells, Zest giving vegetarians option to buy vegetarian foods, Health Generation who specialises in smoothies, Chicken Licken and Grawas Farming (Halaal/BMC), Avani & MECK (all day lunch).
Mr Ter Haar said the urban obstacle activity was designed to encourage teamwork and was not for the faint-hearted.
He said team members were encouraged to have different physical and mental strengths, as each obstacle would test those abilities, and the best way to achieve them would be to work as a team.
Other activities included five-a-side football, bike race, sprint relay and the crowd-pleasing tug-of-war.
The overall winner of the day was Eat Sum More. ENDS
