19 Jul 2017
Barclays Bank Botswana has introduced a fraud awareness campaign to sensitise customers on the latest fraudulent activities, devices and preventative measures.
According to a press release from the bank, Barclays Bank Botswana remains committed to providing excellent and secure services while also sensitising customers on suspicious behaviour and bogus devices used at public service stations and in communal areas.
The bank says it encourages its customers to take the necessary precautions when transacting both online and at ATMs.
It says while technology empowers customers to bank, shop and connect on the go; that however, requires users to be more vigilant.
The press release says as a first rule of caution, customers should never accept requests to share their banking details through email, telephone calls or mobile SMS, as this is a common method that scammers use.
Additionally, those who transact online are advised to use a computer, laptop or mobile device protected with up-to-date security software and to avoid entering their card details on shared or public computers.
The bank advises customers to know who they are buying from before giving card details online or over the phone.
Customers are also advised to register for SMS alert so that they benefit from the verified by visa security function as well as to only enter their card details on secure sites.
The bank implores customers to always log out after shopping and save the confirmation email as a record of purchase. BOPA
