Although some people believe in being employed or getting office jobs, that’s not how Ms Keotshephile Phetso views life.

The Serowe based young woman is making waves with her beauty therapy business, a skill she acquired at Gaborone Technical College.

She explained in an interview recently, that she developed the interest for beauty therapy during her high school days at Swaneng Senior School.

The beautician honed her skills by applying make up on her face on weekends.

Realising that there was more to applying facial colours, she enrolled with Gaborone Technical College to enhance her skill.

“When I finished my studies in 2014, I started operating from home, and it was not disappointing,” she said.

Her business entails manicure, pedicure and counselling on makeup.

Realising the business’s viability, she moved from home to the mall and placed a table next to Bradlows Furnishers and Tebelopele.

“I realised that the service is in high demand and presently I am the only one operating from the open space, and I am readily available throughout the month.”

She said although salons were her main competitors, she managed to retain her customers by offering them exclusive service at reasonable prices.

“My loyal clients are young women, middle-aged women and some old women, and basically for women,” she said.

Ms Phetso further added that her accomplishment was by the support from her family which were financially and motivational.

She also stated that now was her time as she was taking care of her family composed of her mother, sister and grand mother.

The beauty therapist highlighted that customers range from individuals to groups as she has bookings during special events like marriages and parties.

Ms Phetso stated that she has attracted customers across the village and the neighbouring villages.

She said well-shaped artificial nails, nice shaped eye lashes, facial make up, counselling and massage attracts more clients.

The therapist believes that the quality service and reasonable prices were her secrets and said selling beauty products was a bonus.

She said her busiest days were during month end and she helped frequent customers from morning till evening.

Ms Phetso stated that her business has potential to contribute to the economy through creating jobs, and also diversifying the economy and eradicating poverty.

“My plan is to start training youth in Serowe to help them start their own businesses as there is still opportunity in the market.”BOPA
