'It is proper for govt to legislate issues of morality'
12 Jul 2017
It is proper for government of Botswana as a sovereign state to legislate issues relating to religion and morality for maintenance of law and order.
Answering a question in Parliament, Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs said it was true that the founder of ECG, a religious organisation registered in Botswana under the Societies Act, on June 6 2013, was required to obtain a visa to enter Botswana and this was published in the government notice no. 271 of 2017 dated April 26 2017.
He said the notice declared that Sheperd Huxley Bushiri of Malawian nationality was required to obtain visa to enter Botswana.
Mr Batshu said countries within Southern African Development Community (SADC) that are required to obtain visa to enter Botswana are Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar.
Member of Parliament for Ghanzi North Mr Noah Salakae had asked the minister to state the names of countries within SADC that are required to obtain visa to enter Botswana, whether it is true that the founder of ECG was required to obtain a visa to enter Botswana and if it was proper for government to legislate issues relating to religion and morality.
