8 employees retired at compulsory retirement age

Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Kenneth Matambo has told Parliament that  eight  employees in the ministry have retired in the financial year 2017/2018 upon reaching compulsory retirement age.

Answering a parliamentary question, Mr Matambo said 11 other employees would reach compulsory retirement age at different dates during the same financial year.

“Twenty-one employees will reach compulsory retirement age in the financial year 2018/19,” he said.

He indicated that the ministry had a pool of officers who had been successful in assessments for various technical/professionals positions and these employees were available for possible appointment to vacant positions that may arise. 

Mr Matambo said two  vacancies would be created by retiring employees in 2017/2018 financial year while 14 would be created in the financial year 2018/2019.

Specially elected Member of Parliament, Mr Mephato Reatile had asked the minister to state the number of employees who reached compulsory retirement age in the financial year 2017/2018, the number of those who would reach compulsory retirement age in the financial year 2018/2019, whether the ministry had made arrangements for succession with regard to those who held technical posts and the number of technical posts that would be created by retiring employees.
